Pennsylvania State University did a study of 28 men and women with high cholesterol and found if they consumed one ounce of pistachios 1-2 times a day for a month that is lowered their total cholesterol by 8% and LDL by 12%. Cholesterol levels are risk markers for heart disease.
According to the study, when you eat pistachios each day it helps lower the levels of oxidized LDL in the blood which is the culprit for cutting off blood flow to the heart and contributes to plaque build-up in the blood vessels.
